What did you observe during the introduction of Aladdin?
As the animation begins, the viewer can see a glowing red desert with a man riding on a camel into the town of agrabah. We can see the man is wearing a turban which can commonly be seen worn in the middle east. While listening to the intro of Arabian Nights, the strings are playing a minor scale which adds a sense of suspense and mystery to the beginning of the story. This makes sense because the man on the camel ends up introducing the story of the Genie in the lamp. He is also wearing a robe with vibrant colors so we could assume he comes from a higher class. However, how did this man get here, why is he here, and why does he find it important to tell the story of the genie himself? The man liked to sell things which I thought were cool. There were also a lot of street performers. People are trying to find their hustle. What is so important about Arabian Nights? Why would people decide to settle in such a hot and dry climate and not want to voyage somewhere a little bit more habitable? The film showed a giant palace; we could assume that there is some sort of monarchy present in the town of Agrabah.
