- The overall claim/thesis: “My aim here is to offer not an exhaustive inventory of the features of the Orientalist photograph but a preliminary description of some of its discontinuous and scattered traits, situating them specifically in the historical context of their formation.”(Behdad 11)
- The view of Orient has not been viewed by Europeans in a good light. However, the orientalist photograph allows people outside of the Orient to see all of its unique qualities.
- The author wanted to find a way to bring awareness of the neglect toward the middle east.
- The author assumes that people think of the Oriental photograph as a visualization of regularities.
