My Take on “The Thief of Baghdad”

Right from the start of the film, it was shocking to see such good camera quality in a film dating back to the 1940s -not to mention the film was in color. The moving picture did not fall short of great action shots, scenic panoramas, and great music. The movie was obviously a baseline story that the creators of Aladdin used to write a tale about a starving thief who is trying to find his way. However, the creators of Aladdin changed the story from the original. For example, Abu the monkey in Aladdin was a dog in the Thief of Baghdad. They also changed the name Ahmad to Aladdin. Aladdin and other characters in the movie Aladdin were played by white people. One thing that was nice in the Thief of Bagdad was that all of the characters in the film appeared to be of Arab or Middle Eastern descent. Overall, the first half of the movie was very well put together. The set was enormous and filled townspeople that almost makes the watcher think that they’re in the city of Bagdad. I believe, however, that the creators of Aladdin could have set the movie somewhere real. Making a fake land like Agrabah could lead to generalizations that all places in the Middle are violent and disturbing when clearly this is not the case.
